Pennsylvania has over 14,000 acres of vineyards, making it the fifth top producer of grapes in America. At Skytop Lodge, we love our local wineries. As the luxury resort Poconos locals choose, we are happy to share more information about the wineries and vineyards of the Pocono Wine Trail.
Owned and operated by the Strohlein family, Big Creek Vineyard opened in 1996. Offering white, rosé, red and even sweet fruit wines, Big Creek Vineyard has a wine for every palate.
Started in 1981 by Dominic Sorrenti, Cherry Valley Vineyards was one of the first wineries in the Poconos area. Sorrenti has won over 100 awards for tasting and carries a huge variety of wines. From classic Chardonnays and Merlots to the unique blackberry Spumante made with 100% local Pennsylvania fruit, Sorrenti has it all.
Also around since the 1980s, Franklin Hill vineyards offers old world charm paired with a decidedly modern twist on many wines. Crème Brûlée red wine and cotton candy-infused white wine are available alongside more traditional whites and reds. The limited edition Envy (white wine with sour apple) is a local favorite.
With daily wine tastings and weekly special events, any day is a good day to stop in at Blue Ridge. Dry reds and whites, both oaked and unoaked are offered, but the most popular wine from Blue Ridge is a semi-sweet white named Inspiration.
Another family-owned and operated vineyard, Brook Hollow Winery is just over the river in the Delaware Water Gap area of New Jersey, offering several white and red varietals as well as a truly unique cranberry wine made from 100% cranberries. Whichever wine you choose, we recommend sipping it while enjoying the view from the winery’s 100-foot long covered porch
One of the newer vineyards on the Pocono Wine Trail, Tolino Vineyards opened in 2007 with Carl Tolino, Jr. at the helm. This vineyard is a true family business with Tolino family members working in every aspect, from the winemaking to the tasting room. With live music and popular events, there is always something going on at Tolino Vineyards.
The only vineyard on the Pocono Wine Trail that is also a distillery, Mountain View is worth a stop for that reason alone. This newcomer to the wine trail opened in 2009 after husband and wife team Randy & Linda Rice quit their day jobs to pursue their love of winemaking. They offer whites, reds, blushes, sparkling and dessert wines. The distillery also crafts fruit-infused vodkas, Apple Pie Shine and their 100-proof Original Shine.
