Summer is one of the best times of year to take a family vacation to the Poconos. Average daily temperatures are in the mid-70s. Fragrant lavender and magnolia bloom, scenting the air with sweet floral perfume. The grassy lawns and tree-shaded glens surrounding Skytop Lodge are lush and green until the crisp fall breezes begin to turn the leaves brilliant shades of copper and crimson around mid-September.
While our indoor pool is open year-round, outside water activities are especially popular this time of year. Who can resist the allure of a cool lake or a sparking pool on a sunny day? Summer is the wet season in Pennsylvania, so take advantage of all your Poconos trip has to offer and dive into one of these local water activities.
Swimming at Skytop
Take a dip in the shimmering blue waters of our outdoor pool, open May through September (weather permitting). The water is clear, the temperature’s ideal and Skytop Lodge is stocked with towels, snacks and everything else you need to have a comfortable day lounging poolside.
Have a Beach Ball
Skytop guests also have full access to a private beach that connects to Skytop Lake via a meandering stream. Kick back and have a picnic on the sandy shore, or bring an inflatable ball for an impromptu game of kid-friendly beach volleyball. We also offer scheduled water activities like paddle boarding that guests can sign up for in the lodge.
Full Stream Ahead
Spring through fall, fishermen can cast off at any of our onsite watering holes (except the pool, naturally). Our private stream is stocked with trout, while several onsite lakes are home to bass and perch. Everything here is catch and release, so make sure your fishy friends find their way back to the lake or stream. Three-hour guided fly fishing tours can also be booked through Skytop.
Mountain Lake
Our largest lake offers docks with boat, kayak and canoe rentals. A full range of safety equipment and instruction is available, so you and your family can feel comfortable whether you’re seasoned boating veterans or first-timers. Natural waterfalls make for an idyllic Instagram spot.
Hot Tip: Make nighttime reservations for our Lakeview Restaurant and enjoy upscale entrees such as seared scallops or maple-brined duck breast in a finely appointed dining room overlooking the lake and golf course.
Off the Beaten Path
Thrill-seekers can venture off our gorgeous grounds to increase their adrenaline rush at nearby Lake Wallenpaupack and Bentzville State Park. From sunrise to sunset, couples and families with older children can enjoy a variety of active marine sports including water skiing and jet-skiing.
There’s no shortage of summer activity at our luxury accommodations in the heart of the Poconos.
