Fall is a time for family, friends and food. The leaves burst into bright shades of crimson and gold before they start to cover the ground. The weather turns as crisp as an autumn apple, and November travelers plan the first holiday of the season surrounded by loved ones. Around 95% of Americans spend time with family on Thanksgiving, whether sitting around the dinner table carving a turkey, at the movie theater or on vacation.
If you’re planning to be in the Poconos this November, you don’t have to skip the holiday finery. Skytop Lodge is celebrating Thanksgiving with comfort foods and family-friendly activities all weekend long. Whether you’re flying solo or here with your significant other, kids, in-laws or the whole extended family, there’s a Thanksgiving opportunity calling your name.
With 5,500 acres of gorgeous Pennsylvania wilderness, Skytop Lodge has more than enough land for any outdoor enthusiast. Highs are generally in the mid-40s around Thanksgiving Day, making it a great time to break in your new parka or wool scarf. Beginning Wednesday, November 22, Skytop guests can take a guided nature tour of the woods or cruise around the colorful trees on an old-fashioned hayride. On Saturday, a Thanksgiving weekend shoot challenges visitors to test their aim on the range. Don’t worry, though – there won’t be any live turkey targets here.
According to the National Turkey Foundation (yes, there is such a thing!), Americans eat around 46 million turkeys every Thanksgiving. Feast on the holiday bird, stuffing, mashed potatoes and more at an ala carte dinner offered from 6-9 p.m. on Thursday, November 23 at Lakeview Restaurant. Make a reservation soon, so you and your loved ones have a warm and welcoming place to dine. If you’ve got picky eaters in your family, our traditional holiday buffet is probably the way to go. Join us in the Windsor room from 1-7 p.m. for treats including butternut squash soup, roasted pork, creamy salmon and more. View the full menu here.
In addition to our usual fall activities, Skytop is offering cocktail demos, marshmallow roasts, dancing and culinary displays during the holiday weekend. Check here for a full schedule of daily events. There’s even a Black Friday sale at the Pro Shop, in case you want to stock up on supplies for your next tee time. Guests can also travel to the Sherman Theater in nearby Stroudsburg to check out New Jersey-based bluegrass band Railroad Earth or get a head start on winter at the holiday tree lighting in Honesdale. Back at Skytop Lodge, the weekend wraps up with a ping-pong tournament and a holiday arts festival in the conference center on Sunday the 26th.
Why go on vacation this Thanksgiving? Skytop Lodge provides endless opportunities to explore nature, relax in the spa or on the golf course, and refresh your mind before going back to work. Plus, you can enjoy delectable holiday foods without having to slave over a hot stove for four hours. Even the kids will love it, since they’re not on clean-up duty!
